Back in Cardan, amazing grapes and many small challenges !!

It is fantastic to be back in Cardan amongst our friends and supporters here. Thank you for the kind welcome, as always. Too much to write – where shall I start? I will write a paragraph today and probably some more closer to the weekend.

The first immediate observation is the vines themselves. It is very obvious how much care and attention has been given by Pascale and also Bruno Duart, adviser and trainer from CIVAM Bio. The vines are very healthy and have responded well to the “organic” conversion. The fruit hangs heavily on the vines. Pascale has begun to remove the lower leaves to help the bunches achieve optimum maturity….. and at the same time cut any grapes that have not changed colour and will not ripen sufficiently. Quality not quantity is our value.

I have reviewed the records of the organic copper / sulphur treatments applied across the growing season. From an environmental and organic perspective, the results are impressively low, compared to a “commercial modern” vineyard. And of course, NO pesticides and NO herbicides – only wild flowers!! Paradise Rescued says a big thank you to Pascale and the team at CIVAM Bio (another blog, I think!) for an amazing achievement. We are proud of you.

To follow, the challenges in the winery, our fermentation vessel is almost here and the amazing team at Leveque et Fils in Cadillac to supply the equipment.
